House Restoration....

Our kitchen that use to look like this:

Now looks like this:
What happened?

Well, we had a hot water leak under our house (most houses in Salem don't have basements, so there is a crawl space under the house) that went unnoticed for probably several months. What led us to find it was actually some mold growing on our master bathroom pocket door. Weird, I know! Since it was a HOT water leak, it kinda acted like a sauna under the house and created moisture everywhere as well as mold under the house. Because it leaked for so long and because everything was so wet, we had to have a restoration company come in and take care of it. Besides everything under the house, it also effected the kitchen floor. Because part of the wood was wet, they had to take out the cabinets and counter tops, and back splash too. They had to remove all of the insulation under our house....this is it all bagged up....
Since the opening to the crawl space in in our master bedroom closet, we had to completely empty out our bedroom so that they could use the room as their work space. (our bed is now in with Hudson and the rest of our room is in the garage:)
We have had to rip out the bathroom floors in the master bathroom, and the pocket door.

So, it has been really annoying! It has been a week since they started the work. The green fans in the picture were on in the kitchen for a little over 4 days (and they were so loud!!!) drying out the wood as well as a dehumidifier and there are still fans running under the house. They still have some mold removal work to do under the house, and then hopefully we will get our house put together.

We can't use our kitchen at all, so for now this is our little kitchen in our living room!!! We have been eating a lot of cereal...
At least the boys think it is fun to have a picnic every day for a few weeks!
(not sure why they are in their underwear?)
And yes, those are toaster pancakes....I didn't even know they made toaster pancakes!

We have access to our fridge, but we have to go through this little zipper containment contraption...Anyway, we are still thinking it will probably be a few weeks before everything is put back together. I guess the good part of it all is that we get new floors and new counter tops in the kitchen (they were able to save our cabinets)!

We are really looking forward to going to K-Falls for Thanksgiving and having some real hot meals!!!

Oh the joys of owning a home!!!
